Plymouth church has an open committee for engaging in ministry in Dodgeville, Iowa County, and around the world. The congregation suggests what ministries it would like to support, and funds are raised for various organizations throughout the year through "Joyful Noise" offerings and other fund raising activities.
In February 2007 members of Plymouth Church, along with members from Mineral Point UCC, went to New Orleans, LAi to help clean up and build up after hurricane Katrina. This was the second year the group has gone to the region to help. After two years, the devastation that remains is indescribable.
The 20 person group was hosted by Little Farms UCC in River Ridge, LA. Sunday School rooms have been converted into dorms to provide sleeping quarters for relief workers. Tearing down, cleaning up and rebuilding were all part of the work done on this mission trip.
For more information on how you can still help the victims of hurricane Katrina go to www.ucc.org and check out hurricane relief efforts.

Here are some other examples of our missions:
Food Pantry and CROP Walk. The congregation regularly collects food and money in support of our local food bank. We also are a major presence at the Church World Service's annual CROP Walk to alleviate world hunger. These projects are organized through our Dodgeville Community Action Program (CAP).
Sunday School Adopted Haitian Child. The Sunday School children sponsor a child through the Save the Children organization. Besides providing financial support, they share small gifts, letters and pictures with Joslin and his village.
Adopted Family Program. Plymouth joined an Iowa County Social Services program to support several families in need. We learned first hand about the heartache that illness or poverty brings to families.
Tsunami Relief. Our congregation raised emergency funds to send to the areas that were devastated by the tsunamis in December 2004.
Our Church's Wider Mission. Plymouth joins the United Church of Christ in supporting ministries throughout the United States and the world, wherever poverty and injustice hamper the reign of God on earth. |
